10/29/09 Finishing Gas Laws

Today we:
  • Did demos on change of phase & Charles' Law .
  • Continued with notes from the unit.
  • Worked on Lab 3-2, Gas Law Calculations.
Coming up:
Homework:
  • Students should work on the lab report on gas law calculations. This report is due on Monday, 11/2.
Test: We will have a test on Thursday, 11/5. This will primarily be on material from the Matter & Energy unit.

10/26/09 Gas Laws & KMT


On Friday we had our Mole Day, Liquid nitrogen show. It seemed that it was enjoyed by all. We also did a lab on Charles' Law. The lab report will be due on Wednesday.

Tomorrow is Mole Day. We will have a big MOLE DAY presentation. We will go to the auditorium during 4th block and there will be an extravaganza of demonstrations featuring, super cold, liquid Nitrogen. Parents are invited.

  • Continued notes on vapor pressure and Kinetic Molecular Theory.
  • Redid a demo on how to change the boiling point of liquids.
  • Took and reviewed a quiz, shown below: 1.When pressure decreases, what happens to the BP of water?
    2.What is it called when a solid changes directly to a gas?
    3.& 4 How much energy does it take to heat up 50 mL of water by 15°C?
    5.& 6 How much energy does it take to melt up 80 mL of water?

  • Discussed the heat of crystallization lab.
  • Continued notes on boiling and freezing points.
